Architectural enhancement of a historic building in Bern's old town, carefully restoring original elements.

Bauart is undertaking the basic fit-out for the commercial property at Christoffelgasse 6. Built in 1910 by order of the Swiss Volksbank, the building is located within the UNESCO World Heritage perimeter of Bern's old town. The few rooms still in their original condition will be carefully renovated, and a secondary access to the upper floors will be restored. The architectural concept aims to clarify circulation across all levels and clearly structure floor plans to accommodate a variety of tenant-specific interior layouts. Additionally, the areas finished as part of the basic fit-out will feature a distinctive and recognizable architectural language, meeting the sophisticated expectations of the targeted tenant segment. The particular challenge of this project lies in thoughtfully addressing the building’s organically evolved structure.
