Description

Throughout the duration of Expo.02, a temporary youth hostel with 240 beds was developed on disused railway lines on the plateau of Neuchâtel station. Four sleeping cars and three containers protected by a large canvas top were brought together around a wooden platform. The project promotes the principle of "precycling", in the sense that it uses exclusively materials that were subsequently reused or recycled. The entire structure was designed and built in only 6 weeks, in operation during 6 months – with a total of approximately 25’000 overnight stays – and dismantled in 6 days !
