By 2040, six school buildings in the western of Bern will have to be renovated. Three newly constructed modular school pavilions in Brünnen serve as castling areas. The pavilions are a further development of Bauart's Modular-X system: instead of three, the variant in Brünnen has only two storeys and each pavilion consists of two halves of the building shifted longitudinally against each other. This makes the volume of the modular buildings appear less large and they blend in well with the directly adjacent, small-scale development and the neighbouring park landscape. Particular importance was attached to efficient energy use. This includes solar panels on the roofs, a heat pump, convection elements for heating and cooling, and mechanical ventilation of the rooms.
