Description

To the north of Bern, in the Wankdorf area, a diverse urban neighbourhood has been set in motion.  In view of the high-density development aspired to, the new district is planned as a ‘stacked’ city. Public and community facilities will be inter-linked vertically, stacked and accessible from different levels. A place is emerging where people can live, work and meet up on different levels.
With its contribution, Bauart wants to enrich the wealth of ideas and inventiveness already embodied in this project. Emblematic of this – and like an extension to the key scenes in Jacques Tati’s ‘Mon Oncle’ - is the ‘Wonderful World of Amélie Poulain’ and her positive attitude to living together in the urban environment. Bauart has set off in that direction with ideas and drafts regarding potential for further enhancement of the sophisticated development project. In some cases, this affects entire construction sites, contiguous areas or the space in-between.  The result is a collage of thoroughly prepared project ideas. They are to be understood as a contribution to a coherent whole, single pieces of a puzzle that can be integrated into the joint planning process in the framework of the ‘Werkstatt Wankdorfcity 3’.
As the next step, a construction project will be developed for the whole project, including our contribution, in joint authorship. In this collaborative “Werkstatt Wankdorfcity 3” teamwork, the winning architect teams will work together with the building owner IMMOFONDS and Rolf Mühlethaler, architects, and Maurus Schifferli, landscape architects, S+B Baumanagement AG as general contractor, and HRS Real Estate AG as implementation partner. As in the previous phases, a monitoring committee will take part in the ‘Werkstatt’ with external experts and representatives of the city and municipal authorities of Bern, as well as of the neighbourhood, and continue to accompany the project.
