Conversion at the Christoffelgasse 6 Bern

Bauart is converting the basic structure of a commercial building built in 1910 for the Banque Populaire Suisse. It is located at Christoffelgasse 6, in the heart of the old city in Bern and within the UNESCO World Cultural Heritage perimeter. A few of the rooms are still in their original state and are being carefully restored and a side entrance for access to the upper floors is being renovated. The architectural concept provides for a clarification of spatial planning at all levels and clearly structured floor plans for lodging tenants. The architectural language builds on the original building’s key features, while bearing in mind the specific requirements of the various users. Modification of the structural fabric of the building has proved to be a particularly challenging venture.
