A solar-powered facade – the new Federal Archive in Zollikofen.

ClimateOfficeGeneral PlannerCompetition 7th rank, 7th prize

The proposed design for the new Federal Archives building in Zollikofen stands out for its innovative, nature-integrated architecture, combining functionality with high aesthetic standards. Its abstract form with rounded corners and a green shimmering façade seamlessly blends the building into the surrounding landscape. Sustainability is at the heart of the concept: the entire building envelope functions as a solar power plant, generating more energy than it consumes. Thanks to a compact design, the use of photovoltaics, and high-value ecological greening, the building is designed to be energy-efficient, resource-conscious, and climate-friendly. The functional requirements for archiving are optimized through a state-of-the-art storage and transport system.
