Sustainable temporary school buildings in the Canton of Zurich

In collaboration with Bauart, the Canton of Zurich developed sustainability criteria for the tendering process of the framework agreement for total contractor services for temporary upper secondary school buildings, built using timber modules and timber elements. Although the structural system and materials were largely predefined, sustainability was weighted at 20% in the evaluation of the bids. Specifically assessed were the use of timber products based on environmental impact points (UBP), the use of emission-free transport vehicles, and building materials rated by the ecoProdukte system. The contract was ultimately awarded to Blumer Lehmann AG, based in Gossau SG. Ecobau sets the standard for healthy and ecological construction in Switzerland. Bauart has been an official ecobau partner since 2017.
