To the north of Bern, on the Wankdorf site, an urban and diverse neighborhood is planned. Given the high density aimed for, the new neighborhood is designed as a stacked city. Public and community uses are vertically connected, stacked, and made accessible at different levels. A place where people live, work, and meet at different heights will emerge.
With its contribution, Bauart aims to enrich the creativity of the master project. Symbolically, and in addition to the key scene from Mon Oncle by Jacques Tati, this is complemented by the wonderful world of Amélie Poulain, with her positive view of urban life. Bauart has intervened where potential for further development of the sophisticated master project has been identified. This concerns entire building plots, connected areas, or the space in between. The result is a collage of more deeply worked-out project ideas. These are to be understood as a contribution to a coherent whole, as individual puzzle pieces that can be assembled into a complete project in the joint planning process "Werkstatt Wankdorfcity 3."
In the next step, a construction project incorporating our contribution will be developed in co-authorship. In this collaborative work "Werkstatt Wankdorfcity 3," the winning architect teams will work with the client IMMOFONDS, Rolf Mühlethaler Architekten, Maurus Schifferli Landscape Architects, S+B Baumanagement AG as the general planner, and HRS Real Estate AG as the implementation partner. As in the previous phases, an advisory committee consisting of external experts and representatives from the city and the Bernese community, as well as the neighborhood, will be part of the workshop and continue to accompany the project.
