Following the Zug shooting incident, various options involving renovation, extension, and new construction were examined through a complex planning process. Ultimately, the interventions were limited to the redesign of the cantonal parliament hall, along with security-related upgrades to the building. This included restoring the classical interior space and redesigning the furniture and lighting in a contemporary architectural language. On the north façade of the historic building, an elegantly designed staircase with an elliptical plan and cladding made of architectural bronze rods now serves as an emergency exit.
