Our design for the extension of the Breitfeld Primary School in Bern was awarded 6th place. A self-standing timber structure that blends effortlessly into the existing ensemble – while quietly asserting its contemporary identity.
Extension and new building of Breitfeld Primary School
Bauart’s project was awarded 6th place in the competition for the extension and new building of the Breitfeld Primary School in Bern. The building appears as an independent volume, yet it establishes a strong dialogue with the existing structures of the Breitfeld school complex, thereby contributing to a distinctive identity. Although the timber construction is contemporary in its design, it adopts the eaves height, window format, roof overhang, and color scheme from the existing buildings. As a result, it blends naturally into the ensemble at first glance, only revealing its modernity and distinctiveness upon closer inspection.
