A modular timber building as a temporary solution – advanced psychiatric care within a sustainable and reusable structure.

The listed site of the Münsingen Psychiatric Center (PZM) will undergo a comprehensive renovation and expansion in the coming years. During the construction phase, a new two-story wooden modular building at the western edge of the clinic site will serve as a temporary relocation space. This building houses two fully equipped units, each with 16 patient rooms, an intensive care room, an accessible care bathroom, workshop spaces, living and common areas, kitchens, and offices. Both floors offer independent access to a garden. Floor-to-ceiling windows and the vertical cladding, structured by pilaster strips, create a rhythmic façade along the elongated building. The delicate, widely overhanging roof gives the volume a sense of lightness while providing shade. This new building incorporates the latest insights in psychiatric treatment and serves as a prototype for the site's renovation. After its use in Münsingen, the highly specialized modular structure will be repurposed in a new context.
