By 2040, six school buildings in the western part of the city of Bern will need to be renovated. To ensure continuity, three newly built modular school pavilions in Brünnen will serve as interim spaces. These pavilions are an evolution of Bauart’s Modular-X system: instead of three floors, the Brünnen variant has only two, and each pavilion consists of two building halves that are slightly offset from each other along their length. This arrangement reduces the perceived volume of the modular structures, allowing them to blend seamlessly into the surrounding small-scale buildings and the adjacent park landscape. Special emphasis has been placed on energy efficiency. The buildings feature rooftop solar panels, a heat pump, convection elements for heating and cooling, and mechanical ventilation for the rooms.
