The Federal Statistical Office tower in Neuchâtel is one of the projects featured in the latest issue of AS Architecture Suisse magazine, which focuses on integrating solar issues into architectural design. An extension of the main building, the tower is part of a visioin that resulted from a careful study of the site, taking in account its history, geometry and identity. Through its morphology and architectural expression, it more specifically serves as an urban landmark, signalling both the location of the Neuchâtel railway station and the Ecoparc district developed on a former railway and industrial wasteland besides the station. An integral part of architectural concept, its double skin façade is also central to its bioclimatic functioning. The result of a pioneering approach to energy saving and the use of solar energy, both passive and active, it is one of the few administrative towers where comfort is ensured without air conditioning.
